There is always a first

I've been giving the boys vaccines at home for a while. So I continued the same with miss Gemma. Her second vaccine/ the first one I gave her went fine. So her third last night should have gone without a hitch. I gave Gemma her third vaccine last night after dinner and no problems. Except mitchel held her differently and it made me nervous of sticking him with the needle.... I stuck myself. Other than that it was fine... Until 30 mins later give or take when Mitch took her to snuggle. Apparently all her rubbing and rolling on the carpet was an indication of her itching and her face blowing up because of the allergic reaction. When mitchel walked back to me in the kitchen and brought her poor face to my attention, I may have freaked a bit. It was easily 3 times her normal size. We immediately gave her benadryl. Looked on Google and called the emergency 24 hr vet in Orem. Our main concern was her having her airways close. We got in the car and headed south. The roads were awful and the snow storm was getting worse. I kept listing to Gemma and making sure she didn't stop breathing. I remembered the boys vet we visited in pleasant grove last year. I called them and they were still open and I told them we were getting off the freeway. Timanogas animal hospital is such a wonderful place! Turns out Gemma has an allergic reaction, but she wasn't experiencing any shock or pulmonary problems. So insanely grateful! They gave her an injection to help with the allergic reaction. The vet requested we stayed in the lobby for awhile, that we can hopefully see some of the swelling dissipate. I'm so so grateful that Mitch was on board for visiting the vet and making sure Gemma was okay. We put the boys to bed down stairs once we Gemma home. Finally she settled and we were able to all fall asleep. Both Mitch and I reached out to check on her through the night. Sometime between 2 and 3 her face finally felt normal.

The picture below - on the left is Gemma after her benadryl at home and sitting in the vet office after her injection. On the right is her on a normal day.

I don't think Mitch or I realized how scary it was until today when Gemma's face was a normal size. Her poor face was such a ballon 😞

Sunday

I haven't written.  But I've been thinking.  The sun is finally shinning. The days are warmer. My tree buds are starting to swell and will burst open in bloom any moment. The birds are chirping. The flowers are waking up. There are two beautiful robins hanging out on my neighbors roof and they are singing a delightful song. Spring awakens my soul and I am happy and whole once again.
